Time: 2019-06-02

At the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Professor Men Honghua, Dean of the School of Political Science & International Relations and President of the Institute for China & World Studies, Tongji University, attended the Belt and Road Forum for Interconnected Land-Sea Development co-hosted by the Silk Road Think Tank Association (SRTA) and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government on June 2-4, 2019. Dean Men gave a speech on the interconnected land-sea development under the Belt and Road Initiative and China-world Interaction.

Dean Men pointed out that the Belt and Road Initiative emphasizes the organic integration of China’s opening up, regional cooperation, and global development, representing China’s exploration of a new model of international cooperation. As to its strategic thinking, the BRI focuses on common development, features openness and inclusiveness, and takes macro policy coordination and market force as the twin drivers. The BRI actively meets China’s major needs for shaping the period of strategic opportunities, serving as an important strategic leverage for China to deepen reform at home and fully open up to the outside world. The concept and implementation of the BRI show that to shape China’s new period of strategic opportunities, we should prioritize national development, embrace the outside world, and focus on other B&R countries, reflecting a holistic vision of coordinating the national, regional and global interests.
